As a result after a few hours, we were starving. When we arrived at Malsalforn we looked for a nice lunch spot and saw Il-Kartell restaurant close to the coastline. We were lucky to find a table as the place was packed.
We later found out that coming to Gozo for a weekend lunch or dinner is a common practice among the Maltese. Il-Kartell is a place often visited, probably because of its 70-years old history.
They also brought us grilled vegetables and potatoes on the side to share.
Food was unreal! The rabbit was soft and well seasoned. Same with the squid which tasted like nothing else before. Portion sizes were so large that we didn’t manage to eat it all, not mentioning trying something different.
We were left regretful and watching other guest’s dishes. Fragrant pasta, homemade ravioli, fishes, mussels, oysters, lobsters and all kinds of meat were disappearing from plates. Only if we could come back and discover some more local food…
Either way, we highly recommend Il-Kartell. Combination of fresh ingredients and great craftsmanship are worth every penny!
